Retrospective analysis for predictors of postsurgical complications from third molar extraction with use of oxytetracycline–hydrocortisone‐coated gauze inserted in extraction socket

Aim Our previous study proposed a technique of inserting gauze coated with oxytetracycline–hydrocortisone ointment into the extraction socket that suppressed occurrence dry and post-extraction pain compared gauze-free group. In this study, we estimated incidence infection in patients insertion identified predictors change maximum opening volume. Methods This retrospective was carried out on who underwent lower third molar Department Oral Surgery at general hospital Japan. Results The after tooth 1.05% 0.35%. mean visual analog scale (VAS) operative day 4.15; VAS for postoperative (POD)1 POD7 were 2.28 0.55, respectively. percentage mouth POD1 −9.88%, −1.51%. Multivariable analysis indicated age Winter position classification VAS, female sex, smoking, VAS. preoperative opening, respectively, as percent POD7. Conclusions mandibular showed low infection. Moreover, suggested to be an independent predictor change.
